Like many in Jonesboro have experienced, a number of trees and landscaped areas in our parks were heavily affected by a combination of winter’s harsh flash freeze and the concerning bark-scale disease that targets crepe myrtles. We were advised to allow the vegetation time to recover in the spring, and thankfully many have. But some have not, despite numerous treatment efforts.
Trees and landscaping features that have exhausted treatments will soon be removed and replaced. We
don’t expect the maintenance to have any effect on park programming or usability, but we felt it important to share in advance of this process so residents would not be alarmed when repair efforts begin.
Mayor Copenhaver is appreciative of the tireless efforts of our Parks department, and those who provided advisement and assisted in treatment efforts.
